Noeline's father was a trade unionist post office worker.  In 1958, a teenager, she was taken to NT to see ''Black Diamonds'' by [[Frank Hardy]]  who also acted in it.  She was impressed that Hardy could speak his part and smoke a pipe at the same time.  In 1959 she performed in the NT revue ''Fission Chips'' wearing a moth-eaten fur bikini that had seen better days.  She later recalled being nervous about exposing herself to a bunch of strangers, but little did she know she’d spend the next half century doing just that!
