MARGARET SENIOR (1917 - 1995)

Margaret Senior in 1940 designed NTL’s The Gentle People and in 1943 Golden Boy, its set featuring boxing posters.

She grew up on a chicken farm north of London, and after leaving school acted in small theatres and designed costumes and sets. In Australia she illustrated children’s books for John Sands and in 1964 was commissioned by the NSW Department of Agriculture to produce a series of paintings of diseases of plants, still used in publications today. She was a regular contributor to the NSW School Magazine.

The annual Margaret Senior Wildlife Illustration Award is administered by the University of Newcastle.
