LEONARD FRANK MEARES (1921 - 1993)
Len Meares, who resigned from NT in 1959 saying he was going into a “film venture”, wrote over 700 paperback Westerns, most under the pseudonym Marshall Grover. His first book Trouble Town was published in 1955.
Born in Sydney on 13 February 1921, he developed a boyhood taste for movies and Zane Grey Westerns. After leaving school he was a shoe salesman, served in the RAAF and postwar worked for the Department of Immigration. He bought a typewriter in the mid-1950s intending to write radio and cinema scripts but found it easier to pen popular fiction.
He died on 4 February 1993, survived by his wife and daughter, and was buried at Macquarie Park.
